FAQ
Are trauma sensitive retreats just for people with trauma history?
No. Trauma Sensitive Retreats are for everyone, as we are all experiencing trauma at some stage in our life's. Trauma is in our response to an overwhelming experience, and sometimes it develops as PTSD, depression, anxiety, shutdown, ADD etc. Emphasis is given to a sense of safety, choice making and self agency during the retreat. Most participants say that it was so wonderful to have time to be with real emotions or sensations that were arising without judgment, and the freedom to do what suits them.
I can not eat gluten. Will the food be gluten free?
Closer to the retreat Kendra will be communicating with the experienced caterer requesting the food be suitable to the individual's attending. The food will be nutritious, vegetarian mostly organic food.
I don't sleep well and often visit the bathroom during the night. Can I have a private room?
Private rooms are available for a higher price and upon request. Visits to the bathroom overnight are normal. You are NOT alone! You'll find that retreats are a way of stepping out of your comfort zone a little to meet new ways of being together.
Can I get a lift to the retreat, as I don't feel confident to drive?
Yes. Kendra will set up a WhatsApp group 2 weeks before the weekend where you can request a car pool and we'll support you finding your way there and back. Simply ask.
I am interested in a day retreat in Canberra. I am currently working to heal my inner child and anxious attachment and looking for a place to heal and relax.
All Kendra's retreats are trauma sensitive and aim to provide a safe and professional space for you to heal and retreat. It would be beneficial to have a private appointment with Kendra first to establish ways to ground and self regulate when attending group work.
I would love to attend one of your retreats. I have had some significant grief lately and trauma for several years and I really feel that I need to find myself and reset and have time alone for self reflection BUT I'm really obese and have very low self confidence so I'm not sure if I can participate in yoga sessions e.g getting off the floor is difficult. So just wondering if it would be suitable.
Trauma sensitive yoga is a more accessible form of yoga because it helps you tune into your own body in ways that allow you to move how it suits YOU, not how it suits the facilitator.
Kendra always offers chair versions of movements which may give you more confidence to get up and down off the floor.
The main step is to begin where you are. This is Yoga Therapy.
This is applies to retreat settings.
I am looking for a retreat and like the look of your because I am a mental health professional.
Retreats are open to everyone and are of particular help to mental health professionals as they can help build practical skills to avoid burnout, as well as offer somatic experiences that support an understanding of polyvagal theory/The Guna's.
Kendra creates retreats for health professional groups upon request.
